The Powells are great friends of mine, and they have a cool story to share.
Megan and Adam began their adoption journey in early 2015. Finally, in December of that year, after MONTHS of waiting, they were finally approved to foster a child. This child’s family story is not mine to share, but let’s just say that he is one of the lucky ones. He was placed with the Powells and they named him Levi.
The photos in this blog post are nearly a year and half old by now, but I’m finally able to share them because today LEVI WAS ADOPTED! The Powells treated Levi like their own flesh and blood from literally the first moment. They invited me to their home to take photos of his arrival and I can still remember the haze of anxiety and hope that filled the house. Megan showed me the nursery they had prepared for their son. That’s how they referred to him, always: “our son”. Even though he could have been wrested from their loving arms at any moment, they had faith.
It was Christmastime, and they had a stocking for him already hung. They weren’t sure if they would get to keep him. They hoped, of course, but there was so much uncertainty. It was getting late and Levi’s social worker had still not arrived. Megan folded some laundry. Adam paced nervously. There was a false alarm when the doorbell rang – it was just an Amazon package.
And then, suddenly, their child arrived.
They were parents, finally.
Just a couple weeks ago, the Powells received their second child in the same manner. I can’t share those photos yet (foster system rules – to protect the child’s identity), but I’m hoping to be able to very soon! Congrats, Powell family!
